Office Policy on Attendance Update: November 2018

You will be responsible to pay your full session fee if you give less than 24 hours notice of a cancellation or do not show to your appointment.  In the event of a no show or cancellation with less than 24 hours notice the credit card you placed on file will be billed. You can always ask for a video appointment if you cannot make the in-person session.

If you have more than 5 cancellations in a year, which HAVE NOT BEEN RESCHEDULED WITHIN THAT SAME WEEK, regardless of whether 24-hour notice was given, you may lose your regular weekly or every other week appointment slot.  Held appointment slots are for those who attend regularly. Frequent cancellations will also be important for us to discuss together in the therapy office as this leads to the question, “Is this the right time for therapy if you are not committing to it?”   If you lose your slot I cannot guarantee I can fit you in for therapy every time you want to come in.

EXCEPTIONS: For Headstrong clients, and select Lyra plans, fees and attendance policies are set by contract with Lisette Lahana, LCSW and will be shared with you upon registration for services and are located in your client portal after you esign.  However, I always prefer you give 24-48 hours notice of a cancellation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have lower fees?  Typically 20% + of my practice is lower fee.
If you want to access to therapists who can offer letter writing free of charge visit The GALAP.
*In an effort to diversify the field of gender care at least 25% of my mentorship/consultation of clinicians is offered at a lower fee, which can include individual sessions. These slots are typically reserved for non binary, trans, intersex, BIPOC and disabled clinicians who cannot afford the full fee.
For LGBT affirming therapists try interns in private practices listed on Gaylesta.org.  For general therapy try in Oakland: Open Counseling.  In Berkeley: Blue Oak Therapy Center, Pacific Center,(LGBT) Women's Therapy Center, The Psychotherapy Institute Community Clinic and The Wright Institute Clinics.  In San Francisco: Queer Life Space (LGBT) and the Liberation Institute (LGBT).  In Concord try the Rainbow Community Center (LGBT).  Feeling overwhelmed by finding a therapist?  Check out this article.

Do you take insurance? I take Lyra as well as PPO insurance which allows you to see out-of-network providers.  However, for PPO plans your full fee is due at the time the service and you submit your receipt to your insurance company. You can use a healthcare savings account (HSA/FSA) to pay for sessions which are pre-tax dollars.
For post 9/11 or military sexual trauma survivors I may be able to see you free of charge via getheadstrong.org.
What forms of payment can I use? Typically, when you register as a new client, your debit/credit card is stored securely in my practice management system for billing.  That can also be a HSA/FSA card. You can use Paypal buttons on this page and there is the option to use other cash related aps if you contact me about it.
